What's The Easiest Way to Sell On Ebay?

Kathy AndersonJune 13, 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a common rule. If you haven't worn it or used it in the last six months, then you should get rid of it. What's the easiest way? EBAY!
That's not as easy as it sounds. Many of us have trouble cleaning out those closets. If we DID follow that rule, just about all of us would have a pretty decent amount of home decor, baby decor, childrens furniture, curtains, apparel, fabric that we should be getting rid of right NOW! You can earn some extra money by selling these articles that have been sitting there collecting dust. List them NOW on Ebay!
The first step is the sorting. Take the season into consideration. By that I mean, don't sell a Christmas tree in the middle of August! Don't sell sheer fabrics in the middle of a January blizzard! Wool fabrics are great at that time. Home decor should be for the appropriate season as well. There's weddings in June so satin fabrics, kitchen decor, maybe outdoor fixtures for receptions but party decorations and such are great for most anytime and especially for the holidays.
So go and sign-up for an Ebay seller's account right now to start the process. It's easy to register. That's the first step and soon you'll be on your way to being that successful Ebay seller you've always wanted to be.
Now you are ready to actually create and launch your auction lising. If you feel you need help, Ebay's help pages and their wonderful Learning Center are only a click away.
So join in on all the excitement of auction selling. It's a roller coaster ride! Don't forget to watch your auctions but remember most items get the most bids during the final mintes!
What Is The Real Secret To Success on Ebay?
What Is The Real Secret To Success on eBay?
I am often asked what is the secret to success to selling on eBay. What is the secret product that will make me money? What are the secrets of the real eBay PowerSellers? Where are the secret wholesale sources that no one else has? The truth is that none of these are secrets --practically everything about eBay is known.
Are their new ways of doing things and clever things that sellers discover? Sure, these happen all the time. You could call these secrets, but on eBay, once someone discovers a new secret for selling on eBay, they are quickly unearthed by everyone else and the secret doesn't last very long.
There is one secret that top eBay sellers have however, that most people don't know. And it's very simple. You have to believe in yourself, believe in your business and seize opportunity that comes your way. Mostly don't listen to the naysayers and non-believers. If you doubt the truth of that statement, here is a great article from the folks at Magniphy.com that should convince you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm a Believer! Leaving Doubt and Seizing Opportunity!

Why do some people triumph against the odds in business? One of the reasons can be summed up in this phrase: “I'm a believer.” Much of what we can accomplish depends on whether or not we believe we can do it and then create opportunities for ourselves to accomplish our goals.

Take Mrs. Fields' Cookies, for example. The critics said:

"A cookie store is a bad idea. Besides, the market research reports say Americans like crispy cookies, not soft and chewy cookies like you make."
— Response to Debbi Fields' idea of starting Mrs. Fields' Cookies.

If Debbi Fields had not persevered when the going got tough, if she had not believed that she could make a business out of her idea (despite the skeptics), and if she had not moved forward without letting herself get hindered with self-doubt, she would have missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

What's Just around the Corner?

To be open to the possibilities that may be just around the corner, you have to believe that something is there waiting for you. This means keeping your eyes open and your mind active. It's having the skill, confidence, creativity, and discipline to seize opportunities the moment they arrive.

"Radio has no future. Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible. X-rays will prove to be a hoax."

— English scientist William Thompson, Lord Kelvin, 1899.

Enterprising people are always developing, following, and revising a plan until it works. They are extraordinarily resourceful, never letting anything get in their way. They do not understand the word "no" when it applies to their vision of the future. And when posed with a problem, they say, "Let's figure out a way to make it work."

Self-enterprising people see the future in the present. They find a way to take advantage of a situation, and not be burdened by it. They're hard working and they don't wait for opportunities to come to them—they go after the opportunities. Self-enterprise means always finding a way to keep yourself actively working toward your goal—toward your dream.

"The world potential market for copying machines is 5,000 at most."

— IBM to the founders of Xerox, 1959

Leading Yourself Forward
br>What could you do if you had more skills? If you read the books, listened to the tapes, took the classes, went to the seminars, and stayed up late and burned the midnight oil? What true value could you develop? Once you can see how valuable you are, understanding self-worth is a whole new experience.

Self-worth plays a major role in self-enterprise. Your self-worth is the difference between being lazy and being active—being self-enterprising. Enterprise is always better than ease. Every time you choose to do less than you can, it effects your self-confidence, your self-worth. If you keep doing a little less, every day that you keep doing a little less, you are also being a little less.

By doing a little more each day, you'll develop a new habit of doing rather than neglecting. Days and weeks and months of doing a little more will ultimately increase your confidence, your courage, your creativity, and your self-worth.

In the end, it's how you feel about yourself that gives you the increased courage and creativity for self-enterprise. Your feelings about yourself provide the greatest reward for self-enterprise. It's not what you get or what you accumulate that makes you valuable; it's what you become.

"I'm just glad it'll be Clark Gable who's falling on his face and not Gary Cooper." — Gary Cooper, after turning down the lead role in "Gone With The Wind."

Success is in the Doing

Success isn't in the having; success is in the doing. It's the process of doing that brings value. It's the activity that transforms our dreams into reality, which converts ideas into actuality. Self-enterprise is found in the activity, for without activity you'll miss the opportunity.

"Space travel is bunk." — Sir Harold Spencer Jones, Astronomer Royal of Great Britain, 1957, two weeks before the launch of Sputnik.

If You're a Believer, Despite the Odds, You're in Good Company!

No matter what generation or age, the world has always had doubters. But, nay-sayers notwithstanding, individuals continue to excel in the face of incredible odds. Here are just a few examples:

"With over 50 foreign cars already on sale here, the Japanese auto industry isn't likely to carve out a big slice of the US market."

— Business Week, August 2, 1968

"Louis Pasteur's theory of germs is ridiculous fiction."

— Pierre Pachet, Professor of Physiology at Toulouse, 1872

"Television won't matter in your lifetime or mine."

— Radio Times editor Rex Lambert, 1936

"Airplanes are interesting toys but of not military value."

— Marechal Ferdinand Foch, French Professor of Military Strategy

"There will never be a bigger plane built."

— A Boeing engineer, after the first flight of the 247, a twin-engine plane that carried ten people.

"Can't dance. Can't act. Can sing a little."

— Notes from Fred Astaire's screen test.

"You ought to go back to driving a truck."

— Concert manager, firing Elvis Presley in 1954

"I have traveled the length and breadth of this country and talked with the best people, and I can assure you that data processing is a fad that won't last out the year."

— The editor in charge of business books for Prentice Hall, 1957

“This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us."

— Western Union internal memo, 1876

"Forget it. No Civil War picture ever made a nickel."

— MGM executive, advising against investing in "Gone With The Wind."

"It's a bad joke that won't last. Not with winter coming."

— Fashion designer CoCo Chanel on the miniskirt, 1966

"Television won't be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first 6 months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night."

— Darryl F. Zanuck, head of 20th Century Fox, 1946

"The radio craze will die out in time."

— Thomas Edison, 1922.

Selling Coupons on Ebay

Selling Coupons on eBay

by: Lissa McGrath

In Skip’s weblog he talked briefly about baby coupons being a hot eBay item. I told him I was planning to test the market with some formula coupons I had received from the formula companies (all new parents get these) and write up an article for his Niche of the Month. The article became a bit too long for the newsletter, so Skip put it here on his free articles page.
When I got to writing it, I realized that it wasn’t just baby coupons that were hot sellers on eBay, there are coupons for almost any item you can think of! As of this writing, there are 12,751 coupons for sale on eBay.

Before I talk about the other coupon types, let me show you the results of my six auctions this week. I sold $45.00 worth of formula retail checks which are a bit more desirable than retail coupons because you are not limited to just one per transaction. Still, I have seen just coupons selling for a decent profit too. Remember – I got all of these for free in the mail.

$ Amount of Coupons
Selling Price
$18 (two x $7 and one x $4)
$14.66

$3.24

$3.58

$3.58

$5.53

$3.55
Retail Value: $45.00 Sold For: $34.14 eBay Fees: $5.09 Inventory Cost: $0.00 Profit: $29.05
I know $29.05 doesn’t sound like a lot, but consider that it took me five minutes to write the listing and they are almost identical so I just changed the amount for each auction, and there were only six auctions. Also, there was no cost to me which is very important if you don’t have a lot of money (like a new stay-home Mom!) My total time invested in these six auctions including photographing the items was less than 30 minutes.

And, as I said, it’s not just formula coupons that are hot sellers. The following items are from an eBay completed items search for coupon that I performed today. I’m showing a sample, so these are by no means the only types out there.

I Lost My Job Can I Really Make Money on Ebay?

Written by: Skip McGrath January 2009
www.skipmcgrath.com

1. Lost My Job. Can Really I Make Money on eBay?

I used to get emails with that question once or twice a month. Now with thousands of people losing their jobs, I receive several of these a week.

Of course my answer to that question is yes -after all I make my living by selling on eBay and by teaching people how to do what I do. But a more honest answer to that question is "I don't really know." You see, it all comes down to how and what you actually do and if you are willing to put in the hard work. Also, I am always worried when desperate people ask that question. When your back is up against the wall so many people simply panic and try anything. They are desperate and worried that they often can't focus. They jump from one scheme to another looking for that quick fix.

There is no doubt that making money on eBay is more challenging and competitive than it was a few years ago, but thousands of people are still doing it -even in this tough economy. In the next story I point out that although eBay's sales are down, there are still going to be over $44 Billion worth of goods sold on eBay this year. That is a lot of money. So although the sales will be down from last year there is still a lot of money to be made if you do it right.

If you are an existing seller and your business is struggling then you need to look at what you are doing. I am not wedded to any product or product category. I have a few products that are doing well and some that are not. If a product isn't selling, I blow out and move on to something else. Successful selling on eBay is a mixture of constant research and experimentation. If something isn't working, make sure you have fully explored what you are doing to determine if you are making some mistakes. If the problem is you, then admit it and fix it. If the problem is the product, then get rid of it and move on to something else.

If you are a new seller just starting out, the best advice I can give you is to just take your time. Learn all you can about the eBay marketplace. Focus on the basics:

Finding good products
Taking good photos
Writing compelling, keyword rich titles
Writing complete descriptions that sell the benefits of your product
Providing a professional communications and shipping experience
As for being desperate, the only advice I can give you is that worry and self-doubt are destructive emotions that get in the way of success. If you have just lost your job and you have no idea where your next mortgage or rent payment will come from, you are probably thinking: "That's easy for you to say Skip. You have an income and I don't." What you don't know is that I have been there too. Believe me I learned the hard way that you can't undo the past, you can only move forward.

So I don't really know if "you" can be successful selling on eBay, but I do know that thousands of people are. In this economic environment many will try and many will fail, but many will succeed. If it works for you then you will never again have to rely on someone else for your income and security

Thank you, Skip.
